1967 Jaguar E-Type
1967 Opalescent Silver Grey, Jaguar E-Type (Serial No. 1E14866) was completed February 21, 1967 at the Browns Lane Plant in Coventry, England by Jaguar Cars Ltd. and dispatched March 6, 1967 to Jaguar Cars, New York, USA. The Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate indicates it was purchased in 1967 by Eugene A. Casaroll of Michigan, the founder of the Dual Ghia Motor Car Company which manufactured 117 vehicles from 1956-1958. Marketed as luxury vehicles, they were popular with celebrities including Frank Sinatra, President Eisenhower and the Shah of Iran. At a cost of $7,650 they were more expensive than a Rolls Royce. Less than three dozen are thought to exist and approach $500,000 today.
Eugene Casaroll later transferred ownership to his son, who Mark Hyman of Hyman Ltd, of St.Louis, MO purchased the car from in 2005. Hyman Ltd. advertised it as a one-owner matching numbers car with actual mileage. Gary Irish, a Jaguar aficionado, purchased the car from Hyman in 2005 and restored it to it’s present state, using expert Jaguar Restoration firms. The car has been driven sparingly during that time (Mr. Irish has another ’67 E-type he drives which is his 5th overall) so the current mileage of 35,XXX is believed to be actual mileage.
This Jaguar is a complete Numbers Matching Vehicle: (Chassis No. 1E 14866), (Engine No.7E 12475-9), (Body No.4E 6623), and (Gearbox No. EJ 13482). It is Finished in the original highly desirable color combination of Opalescent Silver Grey with a Navy interior.
Jaguar XKE restorer, Jim Bryhan’s Body and Paint Specialists in Lancaster, WI performed a glass-out, complete bare metal respray. The entire vehicle was stripped and new metal rocker panels door skins were furnished to them to complete minor rust repair. The front nose pan had been replaced by Mr. Casaroll’s son. The underside and rear trunk are retained in original pristine condition, which is very rare. New rubber seals have been installed in the trunk.
Northshore Sportscars in Lake Bluff, IL., a British Car Specialist restored the interior of the car. The interior was stripped and an Original Specification Jaguar Interior kit with leather seating and a new Haartz canvas convertible top was furnished to them to install. The original top frame was stripped and refinished. All glass (windshield, both door glass) was replaced. A new dash, seat covers, carpet, door cards, and visors were installed. The steering wheel was refinished. The radio is original to the car and works as it should.
The car was then turned over to Kats British Jaquar Marque restorers in Denver, CO., who have produced several “100-point” Jaguars. The engine was removed and the mechanicals were thoroughly gone through, with new parts as necessary. The engine compartment was cleaned, sanded and painted to match the exterior of the car. The body was disassembled and the hood frame repainted. The front bumpers were replated. Everything in the engine bay is new or rebuilt. Some new high performance parts were installed to improve the vehicle including Wilwood front brake calipers and lines with drilled and slotted rotors and a Fidenza Alloy Flywheel along with a Borg & Beck 9.5” Clutch with10-splines and a ball race bearing from England. A high capacity aluminum radiator (painted black to appear original), and high capacity cooling fan have also been added as welcome and often necessary upgrades. Other new highlights include a Petronix high torque starter, clutch slave cylinder, alternator, brake master cylinder, hoses and belts, and an oil filter spin-on conversion. The carburetors and water pump were rebuilt. Replated Ceramic Exhaust manifolds and new stainless steel exhaust system with new chrome exhaust tips (12-pieces overall) were installed. New motor mounts, Jaguar torsion bars, front sway bar, poly front suspension bushings, wheel bearings, steering rack bellows, Koni front shocks (which meet judging requirements) and Jaguar rear shocks were all installed. A complete rebuild of the rear axle and suspension assembly with new Jaguar specification parts was performed along with a rebuild of the Jaguar Girling rear brake components with new pads and rotors. The Jaguar rear end is original and was rebuilt and the rear differential serviced. A new gas tank was installed. The car rides on new Vredestein tires and new Dayton Wire Wheels with 2 eared knock offs, which all meet judging standards.
The front suspension components were removed, disassembled, replated and rebuilt back to factory. ?
The final tune-up and chassis tuning by Allies Vintage Automotive of Denver, Colorado who specialize in Vintage British cars was performed in 2025. The original carburetors and suspension were tuned, as well as some other finishing details like an alignment.
A full detail with paint correction has recently been performed.
